If your business is small, then claiming it on your personal taxes or as hobby income probably won't affect the bottom line very much. However, once you get above a certain threshold (which varies for each individual), it may be better to speak with a tax professional about separating your business and personal income. I remember my grandparents complaining about having to file taxes quarterly for their business way back when (they had a small furniture store and auction). It looks like such a hassle. We're luck to live in the electronic age, where we can just log online and input the number, then with a click of a submit button, we're done. I've had a few years of self employment where this would have been a much easier solution than filling out the paperwork quarterly...
