The record breaking home run ball that Barry Bonds hit last month to break Hank Aaron’s 33 year old home run record was sold at auction this weekend for over $750,000.
Fashion designer Mark Ecko revealed today he was the winning bidder of the infamous baseball and has disclosed his plans – let the public decide what will happen. He set up a website to let the world vote on three options:
- Bestow it: Give the ball to Cooperstown. The ball that broke Hank Aaron’s home run record belong’s in the Hall of Fame.
- Brand it: Burn an asterisk into the baseball with a branding iron, adding a permanent footnote to the record. Then, send it to Cooperstown.
- Banish it: Put the ball on a rocket ship and launch it into orbit, a moon shot for the ages. Out of sight, out of mind.
Is this the best use of $750,ooo? Maybe not. But I think it’s a great PR stunt.
Voting ends September 25th, so be sure to get your vote in soon! I have done my civic duty and voted. Have you?
PS: Leave a comment stating what you voted and why. No holds barred, but I reserve the right to edit naughty words.
Though I have no proof of any wrongdoing on Bonds’ part, I voted option #2.
