Citibank recently launched a new line of cards and other financial products, including the Citi Checking Account, which are designed to attract consumers interested in earning rewards.  It’s no secret that many consumers have wised up over the last few years to the debt that credit cards can rack up, but when used responsibly, a credit card is a valuable tool that can flat out save you money – especially for airline points or travel rewards.  The Citi ThankYou® Premier Card aims to do just that.

Citi ThankYou® Premier Card

Citi ThankYou(SM) PremierKicking off things, the Citi ThankYou® Premier Card offers new cardholders the opportunity to earn 40,000 bonus points after $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. To put that in perspective, 40,000 points can be redeemed for $400 in gift cards,  $500 for airfare, or other great rewards.

Redeem your rewards points for anything. Your ThankYou Points never expire, and you can earn unlimited points which can be redeemed for virtually anything, including gift cards, travel rewards, cash rewards, electronics, and more.

Extra value when Points are redeemed for travel. Did you notice that your points are worth more when redeemed for travel? ThankYou® Points are worth 25% more when redeemed for airfare, hotels, cruises and car rentals through the ThankYou® Travel Center at thankyou.com, as compared to gift cards.

Transfer Points: Citi also makes it easy to transfer your points to a variety of travel loyalty programs from airlines to hotels. Terms and conditions may apply.

One other thing to consider is that this is a no pre-set spending limit card. Even though Citibank does set a credit limit, they do not report this limit to the credit reporting agencies, which could cause a negative impact on your credit score.

Free money! A BIG fan of that. I love the offers that c.c. companies are throwing out there as of late. Huge incentive for those who have to fly cross-country as frequently as I do.

Why knock the annual fee when the free annual companion ticket is may be worth $100, $200 or more than the annual fee?

We aren’t knocking the annual fee, simply stating that it exists. This is becoming a popular way for airline cards to charge an annual fee – charge $100 or more for the card, but offer a free airline ticket in exchange. It promotes loyalty and encourages travel.
