Citi and Hilton hotels recently released their premier joint offer, the new Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Reserve Card. New cardholders who spend a minimum of $2,500 within 4 months of opening their account will receive a sign-up bonus good for 2 free weekend night passes with no restrictions. Weekend reservations usually carry a premium rate, especially at choice locations, which makes this bonus worth up to $500 or more, depending on where you stay.
This is also a great travel credit card, as it has both a magnetic strip and a smart chip, which is the primary form of reading credit cards in Europe and many overseas locations. In addition to being able to use the card with ease wherever you travel, you can avoid paying foreign transaction fees, which are waived with this card (most credit card issuers charge 3% of the purchase when using your card overseas). Add in the premium rewards program, the bonus nights you get for joining, and the perks you receive at Hilton owned properties, and you have the makings of a valuable travel rewards credit card, especially for the frequent traveler.
Free HHonors Gold Membership status with card-membership. Gold Membership is second highest membership tier at Hilton Resorts and it is a valuable benefit, good for free high-speed internet access, free continental breakfast, upgrades to preferred rooms when available, and more. You can learn more about these benefits here.
Annual fees and other notes: There is a $95 annual fee, which is not waived during the first year. This is easily recouped during your initial weekend night stay, and with the other benefits earned through the HHonors Gold Membership, such as the free internet connection, continental breakfast, and room upgrades. The lack of foreign transaction fees also gives cardholders an opportunity to recoup the annual fee if they frequently travel overseas.
Where you can use your free weekend night certificate: You can redeem your rewards at virtually any Hilton Property, which features over 4,000 hotels and resorts, including famous brands such as Hilton Hotels & Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, and more (there are some excluded locations). To maximize the most value from your free weekend passes, you might consider redeeming them the next time you are in one of the more premium locations. Depending on where you stay, your voucher could be worth well over $500.
