Happy Veterans Day to all the veterans out there who served our country in the Armed Forces, and to those who supported veterans while they served – we couldn’t have done it without your support! Even though it may seem like some people only thank veterans once or twice a year on the major holidays, you should know  that your service is greatly appreciated year round!

Yesterday I was catching up on some reading and I stumbled across a recent article on the blog, Being Frugal: Support the American Cancer Society and Get a Great Deal! Plus a Giveaway!. That’s a long title for a great deal with a good purpose. Apple just announced their annual back to school promotion: College students, faculty, and staff members at any grade level are eligible to get a FREE iPod with the purchase of a new Mac (any iPod, from the nano up to the Touch). This offer is available at the Apple Store for Education and is good from now until September 8, 2009. Apple is also offering a $100 printer rebate if you purchase a Mac, from now until July 20, 2009.

How to Qualify for a Free iPod Touch

Who qualifies? The Apple Back to School offer is only available at the U.S. Apple Store for Education and is open to college students and their parents, employees of a public or private K–12 institution, school board members who are currently serving as elected or appointed members, and PTA or PTO executives currently serving as elected or appointed officers. (see official offer for more details regarding eligibility).

Free iPod Touch with Purchase of a Mac

Getting the free iPod is easy if you are eligible. Just follow these three steps:

1. Shop for a Mac. Shop the Apple Online Store for Education, call 1-800-MY-APPLE, or visit your favorite Apple Retail Store or your local Apple Authorized Campus Store.
2. Buy an iPod. Purchase your Mac and any model iPod at the same time to qualify for your online rebate.
3. Submit your rebate. After you receive your Mac and iPod, submit your claim online by October 8, 2009.

$100 Apple printer rebate

Apple is also offering a $100 rebate on printers, so keep this in mind if you are shopping for a new Mac. My sister took advantage of this offer last year and the printer she selected had a list price of $99, so she ended up with a free iPod Touch and a free printer. That made preparing for her first year of college more affordable!

To qualify for the $100 printer rebate you will need to purchase an Apple computer and a qualifying printer on the same invoice between April 21, 2009, and July 20, 2009, then submit your rebate to Apple.
