Roundup – Jobs for Change Edition

by Ryan on June 14, 2009

It’s been a busy week for my wife and I as we continue preparing for our first child. This is also my wife’s last week of work before she becomes a stay at home mom. Were both looking forward to the adventure known as parenthood, and my wife is excited to be staying home.

Jobs for Change. Jobs for Change is a non-profit career service and marketplace for social change jobs. The mission of Jobs for Change is to recruit a new generation of leaders into the nonprofit, government, and social enterprise sectors. They are currently working to build the largest database available of jobs in the nonprofit, government, and social enterprise sectors. More about the Jobs for Change vision.

If you haven’t considered working in the nonprofit, or government sector, you may wish to see what it is has to offer, and what you can offer.

I have to say that I’ve been very happy working for a non-profit. Working for an organization that actually benefits people who need help the most is very important for me. Granted, the pay isn’t what I could make in the corporate world, but it’s more important for me to feel good about what I do. I would definitely encourage people to consider non-profit or social service work. It’s not always easy, but it can be very rewarding.

Given the current status of our economy, I would hope our best and brightest stay away from these types of government jobs and concentrate on the private sector instead where they’ll actually be generating revenue and growing GDP. But given Washington’s recent push for (and funding of) universal voluntary civil service, we could see otherwise.
