A couple of weeks ago I wrote about Tip’d, the new social media site devoted to financial information. In the Tip’d review I wrote, I noted some of the positive aspects of social media that Tip’d brings to the financial niche. Since its Beta launch, Tip’d has made quite a few enhancements under the hood.
Today Tip’d is transitioning from the Beta launch to the official live version and I think you should check it out and join the 1,700 Tip’d members who are voting for the best articles in personal finance and other financial news topics.
Here are some new features to Tip’d since the beta launch:
- Topple button improvements – the formula for when a story gets toppled now works as advertised.
- Private messaging between Tip’d members
- Users have 3 minutes to edit a story after submission
- 2 new categories created (business and entrepreneurship)
- Tip It button now has its own server. The button was not previously on its own server and sometimes caused slow page load time.
Why non-bloggers should join Tip’d. If you are interested in financial news, then Tip’d can help you surf through the noise and find topics that are interesting and useful for you. Members of the Tip’d community submit articles they find interesting or useful and other members Tip them (vote them up), or Topple them (vote down spam or other less useful articles). Joining Tip’d gives you a quicker method of scanning for financial news without viewing the same staid, commerical sites over again.
Why bloggers should join Tip’d: As I previously mentioned, there are nearly 1700 members, and published stories get an estimated 25-100 hits and that number is growing. Published stories are also linked with followed HTML links, not redirects. This is important for SEO reasons.
Using Tip’d. Tip’d is very similar to Digg in it’s layout, so if you have experience using Digg, you’ll immediately understand how to use Tip’d. If you have never used either platform, it is very intuitive and you shouldn’t have any problems.
If you want to submit articles to Tip, you can see the submission button under my posts and on other websites:
Tip it!
All you need to do is click the button and fill in some quick info – it takes about 15-30 seconds.

Thanks for the update that it officially launched. Sounds like a nice way to get some information from different sources and peoples perspectives when trying to understand situations and make decisions.
