MyCorporation Special Offer – Free LLC or Incorporation Service

by Ryan on November 11, 2008

Yesterday I wrote about how alternative income streams are part of my financial plan. Alternative income, as I define it, is money that I earn outside of my day job. One of the ways I earn alternative income is through my home business, for which I have an LLC.

If you also have a home business and would like to form an LLC or corporation, MyCorporation is sponsoring a free LLC or corporation service worth $149. This is a one day internet special running today, from the hours of 6am-6pm PST.

Here is the promotion announcement:

On Tuesday, November 11, 2008 from 6am to 6pm (pacific time), MyCorporation is offering a special promotion titled FREE FOR A DAY. For one day only, MyCorporation will process a new Corporation or Limited Liability Company for FREE. That’s a savings of $149 off regular service fees (note: document shipping, state fees, publication fees, and additional product fees are additional).  This is the first time this promotion has ever been offered!

If you want to take advantage of this offer, use this link (remember it is only active from 6am-6pm PST):

.

Keep in mind that this promotion covers free corporation service, which includes document preparation, but does not cover the state filing fees. You will be responsible for those fees.

Can you file your own LLC or corporation documents? Yes, you can. Each state has different requirements, some of which are more complicated than others. I recommend downloading the documents first and if you can do it without difficulty, then go for it. But if you aren’t sure how to proceed, assistance from MyCorporation or another knowledgeable source may be beneficial. I compare it to filling out your tax forms. Anyone can do it, but there may be a few small details you miss. Why take a chance? Especially when you can get the assistance free.

I’ve been a user of Quicken and TurboTax for a few years and have always been happy with their service. Intuit has a strong reputation for ensuring legal documents are up to date and meet standard requirements, and I would not hesitate to use them for setting up my business paperwork.

About MyCorporation

MyCorporation is owned by Intuit, the company that owns Quicken, Quicken Online, and TurboTax. MyCorporation provides assistance filling out legal documents such as an LLC, corporation, etc. MyCorporation will also provide assistance with searching and applying for trademarks, proof of copyright for your work, and other business documents to help manage your business. They provide a similar service to LegalZoom, which offers many of these same business forms, as well as wills, trusts, and estate planning documents.

For those that are wondering why they would want to become an LLC, some advice…

Even if you only have a small blog that makes a few adsense dollars, you can become a legal target. Suppose you use what you consider to be a common phrase, or maybe an image/picture throughout your site…and then get surprised by a letter from a big company claiming ownership, trademark, or copyright of that phrase or content ?

Generally, if you formed an LLC or Corporation, the only assets a legal risk would be the assets of that LLC.

On the other hand, if you haven’t, your personal assets, like a home or car can be at risk in this sort of situation.

This is a great opportunity to begin the incorporation process! You can even choose the delayed filing option and MyCorporation will hold off on filing until the new year (so that you do not get taxed for this year). It is wonderful to see Intuit giving back to the small business community…especially during this hard economic time.

Thank you MyCorporation! I am not sure of my position in my “regular” job, due to the economy, but it may be a blessing, as it is pushing me to develop an idea I have had for a long time for a small business. It was timely that I heard your ad for FREE incorporation this week. I did it and here I go!
