Updated Nov. 2009. Two weeks ago I wrote about the Blockbuster Total Access free trial offer which is currently still available. Luckily, I found a similar offer from Netflix. The main difference between the two offers is the Netflix offer is a two week trial offer, and the Blockbuster Total Access free trial is a month. But they are both free, and that’s what matters!
Netflix Details
Like Blockbuster Total Access, Netflix sends subscribers movie rentals in the order they select them from their movie library of over 100,000 DVD titles. Netflix has over 100 shipping points nationwide, so you should expect to receive your movies in about one business day. (Netflix has a 95% fill rate within one business day)!
In addition to receiving DVDs by mail, you can watch movies online instantly. This feature is included in your Netflix membership at no extra charge.
Netflix Free Trial Offer Details
This free trial is only available to new customers, but you may be able to put the plan in a spouse’s name to get another trial if you have used Netflix before and have since canceled the service. The best part is – you don’t need a coupon code to take advantage of this deal!
Note: To take advantage of this offer, you need to go to the Netflix site and sign up for one of their subscription plans. The lowest plan starts at $4.99 per month. Your free trial begins immediately and you won’t pay anything if you cancel before the two week trial period ends. If you wait too long, you will automatically enter the subscription plan you selected. But there is no long term commitment and you can cancel at any time.
Netflix or Blockbuster?
I wrote a full Blockbuster vs. Netflix review which outlines the pros and cons to each plan. But why not try them both for free? You can get two weeks of Netflix, then follow that up with a full month of Blockbuster Total Access! As long as you cancel before the trial periods end, you won’t pay anything. If you do cancel, you can rest assured both Blockbuster and Netflix will send you coupons to try and keep you as a customer. If you work it right, you can get free movies all summer!

It’s not free they charge your card for the month but u can get a refund
John: Thanks for the comment. From what I understand, the two week trial is free, but on the condition you sign up for a subscription. All you need to do is cancel before the trial membership is over, or continue with your subscription if you want to keep using Netflix.
Netflix charges for the “Free Trial”. Period. The wording on this “free” offer is so vague that many people continue to complain about this tactic. If Netflix’s terms are so “clear”, then why are so many complaining about it?
They don’t charge for the free trial period, they charge for the time after the period. Anyone can cancel before the two weeks is up and not be charged.
Yes, under certain conditions you can get a refund.
Problem is, you need to read their full terms to understand the conditions, and make sure you meet all of them.
But the initial wording that most people read (below) gives folks the idea that a 2-week free trial is just that – a FREE trial.
Most people apply the use of the term “free trial” based on how they normally encounter this in every day life. Netflix applies it differently.
Is it illegal? No.
Is it misleading? I think so, based on my experience, and the input from others.
There are just too many people out there complaining about this for it to be a fluke.
So, my advice to everyone – plan on paying for the “free trial”, if you don’t sign up for their service. If you sign up to use Netflix afterwords, they’ll apply the “free” part of the trial.
“Your free 2 week Netflix membership will begin when you click on “Start Membership” during the registration process. Simply cancel anytime during your 2 week free membership, and you will not be charged. To cancel, click on “Your Account” and follow the simple cancellation instructions. If you are enjoying Netflix, do nothing and your membership will automatically continue at the monthly subscription rate for the plan you selected. The FREE Trial offer cannot be combined with any other offer. Limit one per household. First-time customers only. Valid payment method required. See Terms of Use for complete membership details.”
If you want to see films in their original cut , go with Netflix
Blockbuster re-edits R-Rated movies to fit their owners christian moral standards.
Puck,
Huh? Have you rented from BBuster lately?
Maybe YOUR local BBuster edits movies, but here not only can I get uncut movies, I can get the UNRATED versions!!!!
Maybe you need to re-evaluate where you are getting your info from.
BTW – I’m not a big fan of BBuster, but I don’t like unfounded rumors either.
thank you…
You should go through whatever airline miles or hotel points program you have. They usually give you about $10 worth of miles/points for signing up.
