W.C., I read Bush’s statement, and I don’t think he said anything about this being for Bernake’s inflation. And even if people spend the money to make up for increased prices at the pump, they’re still spending it, which is what Bush hoped for all along. He wanted the money right back in the economy to “stimulate” it – whether it goes for gas and food, or consumer electronics, just circulate it.

But I agree, the $600 rebate is not going to make that much of a difference to an economy built on debt.
