Hello everyone, it was a busy week here in the Cash Money household… baseball season is starting up, which means it’s time for Fantasy Baseball! I play in a league with some friends from work, but this year I have a new group of professionals I am proud to associate with.
Fantasy Baseball – Moneyballers League. This year a few personal finance bloggers joined a Fantasy Baseball league. It was organized by Money and Values, and other members include me, JD, Jeremy, Jim, Lazy Man, Pinyo, PT, and Trent.
Since the season has barely started, I listed everyone’s name in alphabetical order. But if I had to list them in the order I think they will place in the league, I would start with myself, then pick names out of a hat.
Enough trash talk… I’ve got some books and two copies of TurboTax Deluxe to give away.
Announcing the winners
Book giveaway: The winners are Lynette, Theresa, Ron, Amanda, and Kirk. Thank you for entering, and congratulations! I have sent you each an e-mail requesting your address, and I will get these in the mail… next weekend or so.
TurboTax Deluxe: I had two copies to give away, and the winners are Nancy and Mike. Congratulations! I have sent e-mails requesting your address.
Selecting the winners: The winners were selected with a random number generator from the website Psychic Science. To verify and label entries, I placed each valid entry in an Excel spreadsheet, assigned it a number, and then “rolled the virtual dice” so to speak. Congrats all!
A gathering of personal finance bloggers
This week there was a real life gathering of personal finance bloggers in San Francisco. It seems like it was a lot of fun, and I wish I could have been there. JD wrote about it – A Meeting of Minds: Ten Personal Finance Bloggers Talk About Money.
Here are my favorite articles this week from the M-Network and around the personal finance blogosphere (favorites in red):
- Being Frugal – My Husband Lost His Job. Losing your job is a tough situation to deal with, but this article gives a lot of hope and solid advice.
- Gather Little by Little - The last lecture and brick walls. Seize the day. You need to live life like this will be your last day.
- I’ve Paid For This Twice Already… Opportunity Seldom Knocks Twice. And when it does, you need to grab on tightly and never let go!
- Moolanomy – A Dollar Saved Is Better Than A Dollar Earned. I agree 100%. This is some great analysis.
- Mrs. Micah - The Amazing Powers of YourRxCard.com’s Prescription Card. Free card = free savings. What’s not to like?
- My Two Dollars - Tips for Organizing Your Home Office. Yes, my office needs reorganized.
- Plonkee Money - my top 5 excuses for paying too much for clothes. Young, single, earning a good living, already saving/investing… go for it!
- Single Guy Money - How to Buy a Reliable Used Car. I bought a new car last time, but the next car I buy will likely be used.
- The Dough Roller – 3 Simple Questions That Can Change Your Life. Carpe diem, baby.
- All Financial Matters – Bear Markets: A Necessary Evil (from Larry Swedroe). Everyone loves it when things are going well, but many people have a hard time dealing with losses. Face it, bear markets are necessary.
- Brip Blap - Go to Hell. No, Steve isn’t telling us off. He’s writing about a “go to hell” fund. One that is larger than a normal emergency fund and prepares you for catastrophic events or gives you the freedom to say “take this job and shove it.”
- Chance Favors the Prepared Mind – Ciaran continues his series on self employment retirement plans. I think this is a great topic for bloggers and other self employed individuals. I’m taking notes!
- Credit Withdrawal – Why do credit cards offer cash back rewards? There are a lot of good reasons -and consumers are paying for them!
- Five Cent Nickel - How to Manage Your Asset Allocation With Multiple Accounts. Good tips for allocating your assets over various accounts.
- My Money Blog – Reader Question: When High Pet Costs Threaten Your Finances. This is a tough situation. Many people consider pets family memberss.
- Punny Money – The Top 10 Things You Should Do With Your Tax Refund or Rebate. I love it.
- The Digerati Life – Are Personal Finance Tools Ready To Go Web 2.0? This is another recap of the workshop held in San Francisco, but it asks a few more questions about the future of money management tools.
This week’s Carnivals and Festivals:
None this week… I was out of town last week and didn’t have time to submit to any.

Thanks for the link, I appreciate it!
You’ve got a very good team. I was a little jealous, except that there weren’t enough Red Sox on there.
Lazy Man, that’s because you have them all on your team!
Thanks as always for the link!
