That's your worst! I think you need to get drunk one night and watch infomercials. That's a good way to waste some money. So I've heard. :)

Buying an automatic pancake maker from the TV that dropped the "perfect" sized pancake onto the pan. It wasn't a huge investment, but I sure felt stupid after.

Doesn't sound like you made a dumb purchase. You went after a dream and had some great experiences. The mistake sounds like you should have gone after the remaining balance. If your dumbest purchase cost you $340 then you're doing real good!

I don't know if this counts as a purchase so much, but moving in with a girlfriend you've only known 6 months when you already have a cheap apartment and your not sure how you can afford the new one might be high on my list (and we only stayed together about another 4 months maybe).

This does not seem so dumb.

You paid for something very sensible and circumstances prevented you from making full use.

Dumb would be like me buying a franchise without any studies or knowledge or experience and ending up writing the amount off. Till today, my wife jokes to my children about this...hehe

Mine was buying a 2 year old car. Looking back I should have bought new and just paid the full price with a warranty. From my experience in maintenance (over 9 grand in 4 years) plus the purchase price, plus the crappy financing it ends up being around 24K anyway, (12.6K + 2K + 9K). I could have purchased a nice new smaller car and been just as miserable without the 200HP engine that failed.
