We didn't do the local cabbie, but we took a chartered mini-bus with a few other couples. We had a great time, skipped the long lines and spent less money than some of our cruise counterparts. My best tips are: Hire a local cabbie to take you to the local attractions. They will wait for you and you can custom design your time and adventures at typically half the cost of the cruise line price WITHOUT the crowds. Tip #2 Always fly in a day before the cruise and plan a late in the day departure flight on disembarkation. Tip #3 The Patch can be dangerous. I find them very relaxing, and the food is fantastic. Since it's all inclusive, I sometimes have a problem given that I can be glutton when it's all prepaid. Maybe the best meal I've ever had in my life was at one of these restaurants, and I'm a picky eater.. Don't do too many excursions, but do a couple. Try to avoid tours. We always like horseback riding, etc. - more active stuff. Avoid the bars in the evening, usually sortof dull. The shows are free, so at least check them out every night.
