This week’s Carnival of Personal Finance #118, Fun Money Facts Edition is up at Money, Matter, and More Musings. There are 88 great personal finance articles. My article 10 Reasons Credit Cards Are Good was included in the credit section.
This week Golbguru interjected some fun money facts in between each of the categories. Here is a sample of the fun money facts:
Martha Washington is the only woman whose portrait has appeared on a U.S. currency note. It appeared on the face of the $1 Silver Certificate of 1886 and 1891, and the back of the $1 Silver Certificate of 1896.
Check out the Carnival for the rest of them. You’ll be surprised at what you don’t know about our nation’s money!
The following articles are articles I enjoyed this week. In no particular order :
- Gather Little By Little: Glblguy tells us how to Save Money by Increasing Your Expenses. Is this contrarian nonsense, or does it actually work? Read the article.
- The Digerati Life: Why I Want to Retire Early, Change Roles and Live on One Income. Seriously, doesn’t everyone want to do this?
Well, Silicon Valley Blogger has examined the situation and asks the important questions, such as how they will afford it, do they have the time, and more. This is a great article to read if you are thinking about going from a 2 income household to a once income household. - Lessons of a Military Wife: So you’re going furniture shopping are you? Or maybe you want to buy a big screen TV? Veteran Military Wife tells us Why Zero Down is a Big Fat Zero For You.
- Clever Dude: Talking Money With My Teenage Cousins. Sometimes it is amazing to hear what younger people think about money. But then, again, it is easy to forget we were once in their position. This sounds like a great time to share your wisdom!
- The Dough Roller: DR Shares some money tricks with us in the post: Nifty Tricks with the Rule of 72, 71, 70, 69.3, 114, 144 and My Favorites, 1.5 and 1,080,000. I love the Rule of 72! Now I have some more tricks to play with! If you aren’t aware of what these rules are, they are easy mathematical tricks to help you make quick estimates of compound interest and final values. It’s fun and easy.
- Five Cent Nickel: Borrowing Money From an IRA. Probably not a good idea if you can help it, but Nickel gives you a clearer and more detailed assessment that I just did.
There are many more great articles this week. Take some time to examine them, and hopefully you’ll learn a few things and be entertained in the process!
