Weekly Roundup – Popcorn Festival Edition

by Ryan on September 8, 2007

The annual Popcorn Festival rolls into my town this weekend! I’ve never been to one before, but it sounds like a lot of fun. There is a car show, live music, a 5k fun run (running is fun?) carnival food, and probably popcorn. Best of all, it’s free! Ok, except for the popcorn.

Here are my favorite articles from around the personal finance blogosphere this week. I hope you enjoy them!

  • Money, Matter, and More Musings: Interest Rates for Dummies. Golbguru explains the reasons the Fed raises and lowers rates using graphical examples. This is a must read! ;)
  • My Money Blog: PayPal Money Market Account Review: Is it Safe? Jonathan investigates the pros and cons of leaving your money in your PayPal account vs. placing it in another high interest account. Definitely something to keep in mind if you often use PayPal.
  • Get Rich Slowly: The Frugal Collector: 10 Ways to Curb the Habit. I used to collect everything. Rocks, baseball cards, action figures, guitars… You name it, I probably had at least one or two of them somewhere. J.D. spent his weekend purging his collection and I’m sure he feels much better now. I should do the same thing one of these days…
  • Punny Money: The Financial Benefits of Learning A Foreign Language. It is oft spoken, “To speak another language is to gain a soul.” Nick says, “To speak another language is to line you pockets.” Either way, I think you win big.
  • Wise Bread: How to Launder Money. And not the washing machine way either. Basicall, if you going small potatoes, you should be fine if you’re smart about it. If you’re getting into major gangsta money, you better be very smart about it!
  • Financial Jungle: Top 10 Reasons for Dividend Investing. I couldn’t have said it better. No seriously, I don’t know much about dividend investing… But I know a little more now! I think this is a great article and if you like making money, maybe you should read it! ;)
  • Free Money Finance: How Do You Take Vacations? FMF asks how people take their vacations – a couple day at a time, or a week or more at a time? I haven’t taken a vacation in a long time, but that is about to change… I’ve got a two week vacation coming up in less than 2 weeks. Hey, FMF… There’s my answer! ;)

I hope everyone enjoys these great articles. Have a great weekend… I’m off to the Popcorn Festival!
