It’s Saturday again! Here are some of my favorite posts from the personal finance world from this past week:
- The Frugal Law Student: Could Identity Thieves Be Any Dumber? This is another PayPal phishing scam, but a little different than the phishing scam that targeted me this week. Don’t fall for these!
- The Digerati Life: What Color is Your Job? Job Classifications and Distinctions. Is your job blue collar, white collar, pink collar? This post examines which type jobs people work, and why.
- Money and Such: The Most Expensive Loan in History. Nothing like a 4 million% annual percentage rate to make you feel good in the morning! Don’t worry, all ends well.
- Money, Matter, and More Musings: The Worst Credit I Have Ever Seen. That statement says a lot, and you know what? I agree!
- Money Smart Life: Are Credit Repair Companies Worth the Fees They Charge? Do they do anything you can’t actually do yourself, and is it worth the expense of dealing with another company messing with your credit?
- The Simple Dollar: The Real Scoop on Debt Elimination Programs. Do these programs eliminate debt? Raise your net worth? Are they worth the cost? Find out.
- AskDong: What Next? You have have paid off your debt, you live a frugal life, you are investing for retirement and understand basic investing, and maybe you’ve even started a little bit of entrepreneurship. What is your next financial step?
- Free Money Finance: Jim Cramer Doesn’t Know Stocks. Cramer gets a lot of attention in the press, but how well do his actual recommendations perform? A very interesting article.
- Brip Blap: Raises – Are They for Suckers? Will you ever reach your maximum earning potential by staying at one job and earning standard raises? Maybe not.
- Get Rich Slowly (Guest Post by Alexandra Levit): Requesting (and Receiving) The Raise You Deserve. A great article about how to show your boss the contributions you have made, how to ask for a raise, and hopefully seal the deal. A must read before review time.
- My Money Blog: How Prestigious is Your Job? Not very! Oh, wait… I think that was rhetorical! There is a top 10 list for both most and least prestigious. My current role must be somewhere in the middle. So why doesn’t it feel that way!?!
I hope you enjoy these great articles!

You actually have a bit of a career theme running through half of these posts. Dong’s article made my weekly roundup, too. Thanks for including my post, too! Every time I see my name mentioned in a roundup with The Digerati Life, The Simple Dollar and Get Rich Slowly my head implodes a little bit (not too mention all those other great blogs)!
Hi Brip Blap,
I guess I’ve been thinking a lot about my career lately, which is why these posts are interesting to me. I’m investigating MBA programs because I think getting an MBA will be very beneficial for my career.
There are a ton of great blogs out there! I read every blog on my blogroll, and there are a few more that I read daily that I haven’t added to my blogroll yet. I will have to do an update soon.
Ryan, thanks for the link back.
If you get a chance, check out a discussion that took place on MBN forums about online MBA degrees – pro and cons. I think it’s in the “off-topic” thread. You will probably get more information there… (or probably come across some line of though which you can explore further).
A few years down the line, I will be thinking about the very same thing.
