The 102nd Edition of the Carnival of Personal Finance is up at Money $mart Life. There are some great posts by many different bloggers. Money $mart Life made this a “musical edition” by using famous phrases, lines, and song titles to introduce many of the posts. It’s a fun way to enjoy some great financial info.
One of my recent posts, “Debit Cards – Take Them or Leave Them?” was featured in the Credit and Debit section. This post was in response to a post by Mighty Bargain Hunter, “Debit, Schmebit,” in which MBH succinctly stated debit cards are not for him. I took the opposite approach and wrote about why debit cards are great for some people. I recommend reading both posts to understand some of the pros and cons of using debit cards vs other means of payment such as credit cards.
Other topics in the Carnival of Finance include investing, real estate, personal finance, and the editor’s choices. Here are some other posts I recommend:
- Five Cent Nickel - “Net Worth vs. Net Investable Assets.” Nickel’s post shows how net worth can be misleading if all of your net worth is tied up in home equity. He tells about another way to measure Net Worth. The comments also offer some great opinions.
- Grad Money Matters - “Rent Vs. Own: A Look at Our Expenditure Then, and Our Expenditure Now.” This is a great post that talks about how the owners expenditures changed after moving from a 2 bed apartment into a larger 2-story house. The differences were increases in homeowner’s insurance, property taxes, electricity, water, gas, furnishings and appliances, pest control, lawn care, etc. This is a great read when preparing to buy a house (or move into a larger one!).
- Fil-am Personal Finance: “The Falling Dollar and Its Effect on You.” A macro-economical look at how the falling dollar value can effect Americans. It’s nice to see a post about how money works in the real world; too often Americans are concerned with their own small section of the world.
Check out the Carnival for more great posts!
