Dell to Sell Computers at Wal-Mart

by Patrick on May 25, 2007

Do you need a high quality computer at a reasonable price? Dell Computers announced Thursday they will begin selling computers through Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores next month. Wal-Mart stores will offer two models of the Dell Dimension multimedia desktops, which are the lowest priced computers Dell offers. The computers will retail for under $700 and will come bundled with accessories.

Until now, Dell has only sold its computers via direct sales – through mail, telephone, internet, and most recently through its own retail stores and kiosks. Dell has also sold limited numbers of certain models at discount stores, but this is the first time Dell will be offering its computers in retail stores on a regular basis.

This is good news! Dell has lost some of its market share recently to HP and other competitors, so this may be the start of a price war for computers. This is great news if you are looking at buying a high quality and fairly inexpensive computer. At this price level I’m sure the computer will be good for most home uses such as internet, mp3’s, digital photos, word-processing, spreadsheets, and blogging. It’s probably not powerful enough for intense gaming if that is what you are looking for. I saved almost $300 on my Dell computer.
